Digital ID Check – FAQs
Is my personal data safe with TrustID?
TrustID specialises in providing secure and hassle-free identity document verification services. While several IDVT providers are available, we have opted for TrustID due to their direct approval from the Home Office after an audit. Additionally, we have engaged in extensive discussions with the FCSA, the compliance authority for our industry.
TrustID ensures the safety of your data by storing it securely for a maximum of 7 days, after which it is automatically deleted from their systems in accordance with our agreement. For more information, please visit their website at https://www.trustid.co.uk/about/.
Will a TrustID check be visible on my credit profile?
TrustID completes a soft credit check, which will be visible on your credit profile without affecting your credit score. Unlike a hard credit search, which reviews your credit record and may impact your credit score and eligibility, a soft credit check only verifies your Identity documents and conducts an AML (Anti Money Laundering) and address check in the background. It is capable of detecting any PEP (Politically Exposed Person) notes or sanctions.
Any information uploaded to TrustID is automatically deleted within seven days.
ID Checks for UK & Irish Citizens
Under the new digital Scheme, an employer can carry out a Right to Work check on holders of UK & Irish in-date biometric passports and passport cards using identity document validation technology (IDVT) from an IDSP. The IDSP will share a report for your records, confirming the document’s authenticity and whether it gives eligibility to work in the UK.
Non-UK Citizens – Share Codes
Migrant workers can prove their Right to Work to a potential employer by giving them a ‘share code’. If you’re an EU, EEA, or Swiss citizen, you can prove your immigration status by generating a share code: https://www.gov.uk/view-proveimmigration-status.
To generate a share code, you’ll need one of the following:
– your biometric residence permit number
– your biometric residence card number
– your passport or national identity card
A share code is usually valid for 90 days and made of 9 alphanumeric characters—for Right to Work checks, it will begin with a W. SmartWork will require this code to start the onboarding process. Employers can access the Home Office online checking service and use the share code, along with an applicant’s date of birth, to check details of their Right to Work in the UK, including any restrictions, for example, on the hours an applicant can work or the type of work they can do.
